4 out of 5 "TEAC A-1D"
First point is that I have given the amp a 4 star rating instead of a 5 this is SOLELY because it doesn't have a phono stage.
HOWEVER I am Very impressed with build quality and popping off the top the layout of the PCB's is unusually spacious, I have worked on these pieces before and they are pretty straightforward the source selection knob turns with a nice solid feel and is digital so it turns with no stopping point.
I have not turned the volume beyond 9 o'clock because I currently get along fine with my lovely neighbours and I know this will rattle my poorly insulated English windows.
DO use the direct input as it is a little cleaner in the lower frequencies and as with all the TEAC amps trimming the treble is a must.
I haven't tried it as a pre-amp but it's still a welcome piece in my TEAC collection.
