"Teac VRDS-10"
I have had the pleasure of owning this unit for about 4 years, and can honestly say that having been trying to find 'the' CD player for many, many years (my husband will tesify to this - sorry Brian !!) the TEAC VRDS-10 is something very, very special.
The first thing you are aware of is the ridiculous level of engineering that has gone into this product - more recent CD Players seem to have lost a certain pride in the build , but with the Teac you just know that the guys who designed this were really trying to produce the very best of what was achievable - the window which looks down into the mechanism (I call it the window of joy !!) reveals more of the engineering know-how, and you can clearly see bespoke transport housing - so many 'top' manufacturers now use the same three 'off the shelf' drives - not so with the TEAC - it's unique, and it's all the better for it.
Now on to the sound - If I said to you that when I bought this (in 2006 for £690) I literally was staggered by the imaging and depth of my music - never before had I heard perspectives and accents in so many of my albums - I had to be dragged away by my husband on the first night, as I couldn't stop grabbing more and more albums from my shelves (just to see what they always should have sounded like !!).
In summary, if you want a CD Player (with the usual Digital Outputs), with, in my opinion, one of the very best transports ever made, with a soundstage which will leave you genuinely smiling, time after time, then try to find one of these - I'm not selling mine, so don't even ask !!
