"AKAI AT-K02"
I have an AKAI AT-K02L Tuner (L suffix does LW / MW /FM rather than just AM/FM) which I love. Heavyish unit with lovely build quality and a nice warm yellow glow to the full length easily legible analogue dial. Lovely weight and feel to the large smooth metal tuning knob, and solid heavy duty power switch.
Connected to an AKAI AM-2650 / B&W dm580's it sounds terrific. Pretty much indistinguishable from DAB, only 'warmer' perhaps. It needs a good external FM aerial, mine is a DIY roof mounted 1/4 wave omnidirectional 75ohm Ground plane.
For comparison I also have an AKAI AA-R21L Receiver which sounds similarly clear & excellent, though hooked up to an amplified roof mounted 1/2 wave 75 ohm Omnidirectional Dipole and flatter sounding Goodmans pro studio monitors give the AA-R21L a slight edge on one station, BBCR3, where massive nearby local HT line / City scale substation RF interference gives a barely audible hiss on the AT-K02L (all the rest of the FM channels are crystal clear). Both the AKAI radios totally out-perform a pretty little Tivoli Audio 'Henry Kloss Model Two' stereo/subwoofer rig I have in the kitchen, but that is running off a simple whip aerial which I haven't got round to upgrading yet.
I paid £24.95 on ebay a couple of years ago for the AT-K02L, for something that sounds as near perfect as my humble ears can detect, what's not to like ?
